The Sally Challenge 4.8.12 Race Brief
Hi Sally Challengers,
I hope you
are all looking forward to a great day next Saturday.
I want to
thank everyone so far for their enthusiasm and support as the Sally Challenge
returns for a second year, bigger and better than ever.
Registration time is from 1000 to 1045 at Rowardennan.
You can
choose to be dropped off; however, we
have organised a large bus to transport all challengers from Milngavie Train
Station to Rowardennan departing at 0930;
this location is only a 5 minute walk from the finish line event village so we
urge you to park cars somewhere near here and let us take you in comfort to the
start.
There
will be NO transport offered back to collect parked vehicles from Rowardennan
at the end of the day so please make use of the bus.
Bike
Transportation
We can
transport your bikes to the start line and once you finish your run we will
deliver them back to the finish line in Milngavie
Bike Drop Off: Friday night between 1900-2000 at 1 Park Terrace,
Glasgow, G3 6BY.
Bikes will be left at the owners risk and will stored in secured
car park overnight with 24 hour security.
If
you miss this you will be responsible for getting your bike to the start line.
Please
take transition bags to the registration with you on 4.8.12 including your
helmets which are mandatory.
Please remember the bus will leave Milngavie Train
Station car park at 0930hrs.
It is expected that we’ll start the race from the car park
adjacent to the Rowardennan Hotel on the left of the B858 as you
enter the village. Look out for the Sally Challenge signage and start line
banner.
We are working very hard to ensure a good relationship with local
business and residents; as such we would appreciate it greatly if you would car
share where possible, adhere to the directions of marshals and park with
consideration once you drop the competitor off.
Attendance at the Safety Briefing (1050hrs at the Start line) is
compulsory for ALL competitors and will contain a full course description and
emergency instructions.
The
Route
Approximate course distances are confirmed at around 13 miles of
biking on sealed surface, followed by just over 9 miles of trail running.
Remember that this type of running (especially after a bit of a cycle) will be
more tiring and challenging than the equivalent distance on tarmac. Pace
yourself and enjoy the lovely scenery!
Safety Crew, marshals and the event Directors will be out on the
course at various points and will encourage, direct and re-assure for those
that need it.
Highland Spring Water, Lucozade and jelly beans will be available
at transition and thought the RUN section of the challenge. There will be no
water stations during the bike section so we suggest that you hydrate well
before the race and carry any hydration and nutrition with you in your jersey,
pack or bottle cage.
Numbers will be available to attach to your transition bag at
registration for the Bike to Run transition point. Any equipment, food or drink
you wish to have waiting for you should be placed in this bag which will in
turn be used afterwards to return any items left in transition to the finish
line.
Challenge
Start
1100 Cyclists (Helmets are compulsory THROUGHOUT the bike stage
and you will not be able to start the event without one). Competitors will be
released from the start line as individuals or in small groups, this decision
will be taken on the day based on the risk assessment of the volume of traffic
on the road. Your time of departure, arrival in transition and finish time will
be individually logged and available after the event.
For any equipment you may need at the transition stage after you
bike section you can give that at the registration team at the start line who
will ensure this is transported to the transition point for you; the transition
will be managed by a team that will ensure your change is smooth and no time is
lost. If you are using clipped/clipless pedals and Road Shoes we will mark your
bag with one of your spare numbers so that you can easily find your trainers.
All helmets, bikes and any other equipment will be transported to the finish line
in Milngavie in a bag with your race number on it.
Finish
line
The race will conclude approximately 800 metres before the end of
the West Highland Way route in Milngavie. It is in the park immediately North
of the Milngavie Community Centre and Library and access will be from Clobber
Road.
We are hoping to create a sense of a mini-village for finishers,
this will include the provision of medals, goody-bags, hydration, food courtesy
of Yo Sushi and as much encouragement and cheering as we can muster! I think
there might be a cheeky wee beer or two as well. There will be a small prize
giving as well.
We look
forward to welcoming you to a great event for an even better cause. Drive safe
and remember, when the challenge begins, it’s not a race… so stay safe!
It’s just a wee cycle and a run!!!
Nae Bother!!!

Test 2 - Confidence to get back into it
This is a test blog post...
My fitness levels have been pretty much extinct for the past two years, possibly longer, Park Circuits has given me the confidence to get back into it, although it’s hard for me to attend every class due to work commitments I still feel a great benefit and change in my approach to working out.
With more determination and less complaining I’m pretty sure I’ll reach my fitness goals before the summer is out, just to be able to run for more than five minutes is a good start for me!!!
Thanks Park Circuits...my motto is ‘to get up hill 3 without stopping/walking!!!!’
